Migratory Monarch Conservation, A Race Against Time

Dr. Rebeca Quiñonez-Piñón, the National Wildlife Federation’s Chief Monarch Recovery Strategist, will present “Migratory Monarch Conservation, a Race Against Time,” to members and guests of the Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Society (HLBWS) on Thursday, March 3, 2022 (please note that the business portion of the Zoom meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. and the presentation starts at 10:30 a.m.). The steep declines of the Eastern and Western migratory monarch populations have raised great concerns among the scientific community and wildlife conservationists. Dr. Quiñonez-Piñón says, “The monarch speaks of the struggles that many other pollinators are facing.” Participants will learn about efforts that can take place at the individual, collaborative/community, state and federal levels to bolster the monarch butterfly population. Dr. Rebeca Quiñonez-Piñón is a world-class expert on the monarch butterfly, with experience in Canada and Mexico at the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve. She has created numerous programs to train and engage citizen-scientists in monarch conservation. To register as guest for this online program, please complete the “Contact Us” form.
