November Meeting: “Parking Lot Birding”

On Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. during our monthly Zoom meeting, author Jennifer L. Bristol will share with us the experiences that led to her book, “Parking Lot Birding: A Fun Guide to Discovering Birds in Texas.”

Bristol’s new book comprises a collection of 90 of “the best birding spots in Texas that are accessible to all people regardless of ability or mobility,” according to Richard Louv in the book’s Foreward. The sites are organized into nine geographic sections of Texas, typically anchored to the state’s major urban areas. The book includes both hidden gems and well-known birding locations. Her reviews include details about birding amenities offered and the number of bird species recorded at each stop. She showcases local bird species at the featured sites, using beautiful photos paired with interesting “feather facts” about each bird.

Ms. Bristol has published articles in Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine and the Children & Nature Network. For her efforts to connect youth with nature she received the Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center, Enduring Dedication Award and the Phil Hardburger Park Conservancy, Nature Hero Award. In 2018 and 2019 she received the Greater Texas Birding Classic, Most Valuable Birder Award.
