On Friday and Saturday nights during the birds’ migration, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Travis Audubon hosts its “Purple Martin Parties.” Anyone interested can bring their own lawn chairs, water, binoculars, hats and cameras to watch thousands of Purple Martins flying in to roost for the night. The birds engage in some dazzling aerobatics in the process, forming a one-of-a-kind natural spectacle that children and adults will long remember. The Purple Martin Party weekends are July 14-15, July 21-22, July 28-29, and August 4-5, 2023.
